Scorekeeper's Duties
Pre-Game Checklist

Get line-ups from both teams (player names,
player uniform numbers, batting order, field
positions, and list of substitutes)
Verify that each field position is filled and that
there are no duplicated field positions.  If a field
position is duplicated, then notify your coach, or
the other team’s scorekeeper if it is a duplicate on
the other team.
Find out which team will be home and which team
is visitor, and mark the scorebook.
Mark which team will be at the top of the inning
and which team will be at the bottom of the inning.
Complete the top section (home team, visitor
team, game date, location and umpires) and the
player line-up section of the scorebook.  List the
substitutes at the bottom of the page.
Fill out line up card for the other team’s
scorekeeper, or let her copy off of your
scorebook.
Get line up card from other team or copy the other
team’s line up from their scorebook.
Find a good, comfortable place to watch the
game.  If a scorekeeper’s table is not furnished,
then find a suitable place where you can hear the
umpire and watch the action.  Usually someplace
behind the backstop is best.
Make sure you have two pencils (one for backup).
After the first pitch, write down the game starting
time.  Usually the umpire will state the game time,
but if he does not, then write down the time your
self.
Duties During the Game
Keep an accurate log of what happens during the
game.

At the end of each inning, check your score with
the other team’s scorekeeper.  This is especially
important if your team is the visiting team (as in
most leagues, the home team is the official
scorekeeper) and in tournament and
championship games.

Keep a running tally of runs and hits at the end of
each inning.
Duties at the End of the Game
Tally up the game total of runs and hits.

Tally up the pitchers statistics in the pitchers
section of the scorebook.
